There is still so much progress in terms of metrics that can be done.<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>descriptive<\/strong>, <strong>diagnostic<\/strong> and <strong>prescriptive<\/strong> metrics the companies have so much in place and the maturity is good. But in terms of <strong>predictive metrics<\/strong>, here in the same way that retail companies are already analyzing the behavior of the consumers, the manufacturing companies can still open the use of prediction to look for benefits in terms of quality, time response and quality.<\/p>\n<p>On the survey done to 83 people from the sector, there was a question:<\/p>\n<p><em> In which <strong>areas<\/strong> is your organization planning to drive business value from the use of manufacturing metrics currently and over the next two years?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The answer was:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/30\/getting-manufacturing-metrics-right\/future-metrics-manufacturing\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2580\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2580\" src=\"http:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Future-Metrics-Manufacturing.jpg\" alt=\"Future-Metrics-Manufacturing\" width=\"795\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Future-Metrics-Manufacturing.jpg 795w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Future-Metrics-Manufacturing-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Future-Metrics-Manufacturing-500x253.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/a>The <strong>4 areas<\/strong> that are in the minds of more people are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Capacity utilization.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of true manufacturing costs.<\/li>\n<li>Faster and better decision making.<\/li>\n<li>Demand forecast accuracy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The question that came to my mind was:<\/p>\n<p><em>how can predictive metrics help to the business to improve these four areas?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Capacity utilization<\/span>: here predictive metrics can have an important impact.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Understanding of true manufacturing costs<\/span>: here what we have to analyze is the past, not the future.
