I understand so many of them are closing and the cost to re-open them should be considerable. With the amount of oil in the market and the future prices sinking into even negative values, I want to challenge my self if I can improve the way to analyze and predict when the barrel price is going to bull again.<\/p>\n<h1>US drilling regions<\/h1>\n<p>These are the main drilling regions in US.<a href=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/2020\/05\/03\/counting-drilling-rigs\/us-drilling-regions\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4661\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4661 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/US-drilling-regions.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"565\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/US-drilling-regions.png 565w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/US-drilling-regions-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/US-drilling-regions-500x257.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Permian<\/li>\n<li>Anakardo,<\/li>\n<li>Appalachia,<\/li>\n<li>Niobrara<\/li>\n<li>Eagle Ford<\/li>\n<li>Haynesville<\/li>\n<li>Bakken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Sources of data<\/h1>\n<p>I only found a place that offers directly the number of opened drilling rigs in a chart. And it&#8217;s just for Oklahoma (Anakardo). It&#8217;s this one: <a href=\"https:\/\/ycharts.com\/indicators\/oklahoma_inland_rotary_rigs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/ycharts.com\/indicators\/oklahoma_inland_rotary_rigs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some other sources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>List from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcicapital.com\/tci-insights\/active-drilling-rigs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TCI Business Capital<\/a>: it only provides data from time to time.<\/li>\n<li>List from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmr.nd.gov\/oilgas\/riglist.asp\">North Dakota<\/a>: just for this region, which belongs to Bakken region.<\/li>\n<li>US Energy Information Administration (EIA): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/ng\/ng_enr_drill_s1_m.htm\">https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/ng\/ng_enr_drill_s1_m.htm<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Quandl.com: it has no data on active drilling rigs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>to do: find more data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background I have the purpose of counting US drilling rigs that are producing oil.
