This has been happening so many years and there is still no other business that is growing at large scale. It&#8217;s true that inside Google some areas have grown a lot (for instance YouTube).<\/li>\n<li>Point #2: Could services is growing up and as expected it&#8217;s still in a moment where there are no profits. There are some issues related to this.<\/li>\n<li>Point #3: There is a set of subsidiaries and projects that are classified as &#8220;other bets&#8221;. There is no specific data related to their contribution. I have added a point to &#8220;https:\/\/killedbygoogle.com\/&#8221; that is a place where some services and products discarded by Alphabet are listed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/alphabet-to-pay-attention\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5265\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1148\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention.jpg 1148w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention-1024x549.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention-768x411.jpg 768w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Alphabet-to-pay-attention-500x268.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1148px) 100vw, 1148px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of the services or companies discarded by Alphabet that pay attention to me:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Boston Dynamics was sold, right the company that builds those awesome robots.<\/li>\n<li>Google play music.<\/li>\n<li>Google +: they tried for some years to attract as a social network and they discarded it.<\/li>\n<li>Google Reader: I used it a lot, and they could know what we all were reading, but for whatever reason, it was discarded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Specific maps and charts by segment<\/h1>\n<p>Since here, I add some specific pictures by business units. To take into account:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Not all products\/services are present.<\/li>\n<li>Some are repeated on the maps.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m biased on the position of each Service as I use them in a particular way.<\/li>\n<li>I had have so many doubts on the organization of the services. Any constructive feedback is welcome.<\/li>\n<li>This analysis enabled me to understand a lot of things of the company and how each service is linked with others. I have not represented all on the maps, but it was a great exercise to go through the services one by one.<\/li>\n<li>I used this page to review all of them: <a found some interesting notes in the founders letter:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our current businesses<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We are excited about\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Getting more ambitious things done.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Taking the long-term view.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Empowering great entrepreneurs and companies to flourish.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Investing at the scale of the opportunities and resources we see.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Improving the transparency and oversight of what we\u2019re doing.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Making Google even better through greater focus.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>And hopefully\u2026 as a result of all this, improving the lives of as many people as we can.&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This reflects too much the company it is.
