{"id":7363,"date":"2019-03-17T20:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-17T19:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/?p=7363"},"modified":"2023-03-17T20:53:08","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T19:53:08","slug":"changing-incentives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/2019\/03\/17\/changing-incentives\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing incentives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The incentives are present in many ways and it&#8217;s the lever that companies use to foster the values and behaviors they are waiting from their employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These cartoons were created by Google employee\u00a0Manu Cornet\u00a0and they triggered Satya Nadella (Microsoft&#8217;s CEO).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7364\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-11.png 600w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-11-300x293.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The need of doing something to solve it was clear, the sense of urgency was clear too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Microsoft moved from a dogmatic and competitive environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They moved to a competitive arena where collaboration was rewarded above all else.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of the changes:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Change the approach to performance evaluation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus of leadership to encourage the adoption of a growth mindset: encouraging people, in Nardella&#8217;s words, to be &#8216;learn-it-alls&#8217; instead of &#8216;know-it-alls&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results, we all know today. And I can write a little bit about this story because Satya Nadella did reference this cartoon in his book, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hit-Refresh-Rediscover-Microsofts-Everyone-ebook\/dp\/B01HOT5SQA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hit Refresh<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The incentives are present in many ways and it&#8217;s the lever that companies use to foster the values and behaviors they are waiting from their employees.
