{"id":7701,"date":"2023-06-07T17:00:29","date_gmt":"2023-06-07T15:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/?p=7701"},"modified":"2023-06-08T00:50:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T22:50:34","slug":"introduction-to-agent-based-modeling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/2023\/06\/07\/introduction-to-agent-based-modeling\/","title":{"rendered":"Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;m doing this course: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.complexityexplorer.org\/courses\/171-introduction-to-agent-based-modeling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling<\/a>, and I would like to keep some notes and screenshots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">agent<\/span><\/strong> is an autonomous individual element with properties and actions in a computer simulation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Agent-Based Modeling (ABM)<\/strong><\/span> is the idea that the world can be modeled using agents, an environment, and a description of agent-agent and agent-environment interactions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Phase transition: a small change in an input parameter dramatically affects the outcome of a model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Models<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introductory Models<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The fire model:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Variable: density of the forest (by default: 57%),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tipping point: 62% of density of the forest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The traffic model:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Variables: Number of cars, acceleration, deceleration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free flow state: with low number of cars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for the dynamics, not on the static final result.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The average speed does not describe any particular car.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Schelling tipping model:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tom Schelling (1972) related to segregation of people in a neighbourhood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 different groups of people, segregation of people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Variables: density (by default 95%) and %-similar wanted (30%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schelling&#8217;s model sometimes called the Tipping model because <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>neighborhoods in the model can be very stable&nbsp;until the arrival or departure of one more agent, and then the neighborhood can change dramatically.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Complex Models<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Social networks models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spatial models<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m doing this course: Introduction to Agent-Based Modeling, and I would like to keep some notes and screenshots.
