There are 2 types of companies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The companies that will continue pushing their own inertia due to they have been successful &#8220;thanks to that approach&#8221;. And,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The companies with the will and ability to avoid &#8220;noisy features&#8221;, offer competitive delivered value at better price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Soon, clients will adjust to get better efficiency of the use of the services they consume and those player delivering well at a better price will be able to increase their market presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can we anticipate to this?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s look first how the value chain is build:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Licenses continue to decrease their presence in the market.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right now SaaS is the dominant way of selling and buying software.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;Pay as a Result&#8221; is an emergent monetization model that some companies are starting to use and\/or announce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"654\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-6.png 900w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-6-300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-6-768x558.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pay as a Result<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I have called it &#8220;pay as a result&#8221;, right now I do not know what is the recognizable name for it. Some examples of this phenomenon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-7.png 800w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-7-240x300.png 240w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-7-768x960.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why do I think this is going to happen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every capability has a limit where by design you cannot cover all the scenarios. This constraint will show up once the market evolves from a perfect situation to that capability to a new scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The capability can adapt to it, but sometimes there is a constraint that by design cannot adapt to the new context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That constraint happened to the software distributed under license. The license limiting factor is the releases of the products are slow and expensive. In a context where the speed of delivery of new features increase exponentially, that limit by designed is killing slowly the monetization model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My guess is that SaaS has a limitation factor, especially in the solutions that are highly success (past success models create inertia). The companies adding &#8220;noisy features&#8221; will be replaced by companies that offer the core functionality at better unit price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"613\" src=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-8.png 900w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-8-300x204.png 300w, https:\/\/joapen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-8-768x523.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Takeaways<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I cannot forecast when this is going to happen, but I anticipate this will happen, and guess what? we all end paying more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The article &#8220;Noisy features&#8221; made me think about the money spent in features that are not worthy, adding fat to a product that works well.
