This post is a set of notes where I add information about the different versions of the web: Web 1.0, Web 2.0…
Table for different versions
This is not too much creative as there are many tables as the one I have created below, but this one summarizes the main concepts.
Wardley map of versions
Web1.0:
- It’s being the basis of many things happening today.
- Many of the sites or applications have disappear or are just a commodity.
- Web 2.0 exists thanks to Web 1.0 and its limits.
- Years of main presence: 1990 – 2005
Web 2.0:
- Right now, dominating the market. Many monopolies are dominating the market.
- Web 3.0 is being created due to the concerns on the monopolies of Web 2.0.
- Years of main presence: 2000 – 2025
Web 3.0:
- Right now being build.
- Years of main presence: 2015 – 2035???
Web 4.0
- Right now in its genesis. There are products created that are demonstrating great high potential.
- They need to progress to a more mature applications.
- Co-evolution of practices is also required to have a good evolutions.
- Years of main presence: 2020 – 2040??
Web 5.0:
- Right now in its genesis: the concept is being defined and some actors are trying to build something.
- The term “web 5.0” is in reality being used to provide guidance about the vision of the creators and give importance to what they are creating, but all this needs to be demonstrated.
- Years of main presence: uncertain.
All versions of the web have something in common: Open source is the main enabler of the solid construction of the web.
