To move an organization from its Genesis to Custom build is like to take a small expedition from one valley to other.
You have to prepare all, wait till the window of opportunity is opened (weather or climatic patterns), knowing that uncertainties can happen.
In the “genesis” valley you leave some assets that you cannot carry on this journey. On the “custom build” valley there are new opportunities, more resources, you go there because it’s the promised land, but you also know there are other tribes there.
To cross a mountain range like this you need to have the determination and courage to do it. During the journey you will find other tribes stuck in the middle of the mountain, unable to find the right mountain pass that enable them to reach the other valley.
Wardley maps have to be read in that way. To cross the a mountain pass is a challenge, and if you do without a map I just think you have more probabilities to die trying.
You can tell: many people have done it! And you’re right, but many people has failed too.
Use the methods that better fit with your tribe, but before to engage in the journey of crossing a mountain pass, at least explore Wardley mapping and give you the opportunity of engage with a tool that can give you the opportunity to orientate in a fuzzy competitive space.
