Philadelphia 76ers 2026.27

The Sixers did a lot of relevant changes on the roster, with some good names, but adding a Lebron that is in the end of his career adds a lot of uncertainty on a team lack of culture and character.

Here’s the map

What changed

They have a new front office, led by president Mike Gansey (coming from Cleveland Cavaliers), traded Paul George, two firsts (2028, 2031) and two seconds to Boston for Jaylen Brown.

It then signed LeBron James to a two-year, $8M deal and added Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Ariel Hukporti (which unfortunately got injured for the season on the first pre-season game) and the No. 22 pick, Labaron Philon Jr.

Grimes, Oubre and Drummond left in free agency, Lowry retired, and Broome was traded to the Clippers.

Team layer

The core is Maxey, Brown, Embiid, Edgecombe and James, with the oldest and youngest pieces at opposite ends of the axis.

  • Proven (green): Maxey (coming off an All-NBA season), Brown, Edgecombe (after an electric rookie year), Simons, Wade and Caldwell-Pope.
  • Uncertain (amber):
    • Embiid has played in only 39% of games over the past three seasons.
    • James is 41, in his 24th season.
    • Bona and Hukporti are the backup bigs who have to cover Embiid’s absences.
    • Philon and the two-ways are unproven.
  • Shape: Peak and Growth are both well stocked.

Organization and culture

Nick Nurse’s staff is the green anchor.

The front office is amber because it is brand new and its first big bets are untested. The medical staff is amber because of Embiid’s and Lebron’s availability.

The culture and the recruiting doctrine are also amber, there are transitions of hierarchy and the presence of Lebron impacts as he attracts all the lights and the construction of a winner team requires all members to be in alignment under one voice. Right now it looks like there are many voices in the locker room and not a clear culture outside of the locker room that drives the things that happen in side,

Money layer

Philadelphia spent its flexibility on this core. Two firsts and two seconds went to Boston, and Broome went to the Clippers along with a 2027 pick. The cap and apron are amber because the cap picture is tight.

Official 2026-27 lines:

  • Cap $164.961M,
  • Tax $200.428M,
  • First apron $209.015M, (Philadelphia 76ers are here)
  • Second apron $221.686M.

Lifecycle

The 76ers stay as play-off team , colored amber because it hangs on Embiid. They went 45-37 last year, beat Boston in seven games, and were swept by the Knicks in the second round. The newspapers sell they now have “a narrow path to the Finals,” but the strong presence of many egos in the locker room, the lack of shooting and a continued dependence on Embiid for size; makes them to be a good team but not a contender.

The takeaway

I think they did a good trade adding Jaylen Brown and taking rid of Paul George, but I think the inclusion of Lebron will not help the franchise to be a contender. This year I see all the lights will be on Lebron and all that noise will have impact negative on the performance of the team.

I will go straight to the point, to me they have built a team to sell more tickets and t-shirts, mainly to Lebron’s presence

I also expect many opponents looking their poster dunk against Lebron.
